The Color Rendering Index (CRI) is a measure of a light source's "color fidelity" or "color reproduction capability." It measures how well a light source can faithfully reproduce the colors of an object.

What does a CRI value represent?

CRI 100: Natural light

CRI 90-100: Very accurate color reproduction. Commonly used in settings requiring precise color judgment, such as art galleries, museums, printing shops, high-end retail stores, and operating rooms.

CRI 80-90: Good color reproduction, sufficient for most residential and commercial spaces. Object colors appear vivid and true to life.

CRI 70-80: Average. Acceptable color reproduction, but close scrutiny may reveal that some colors (particularly reds) may appear slightly dim or unnatural. This is commonly seen in some inexpensive LED lamps.

CRI < 70: Poor. Color distortion is noticeable, and objects appear gray and dull. Not suitable for indoor spaces requiring a good visual environment.

Home Area Highly Recommended CRI Index Acceptable CRI Index Core Reasons
Kitchen ≥ 95 ≥ 90 Accurately identify ingredients for safe cooking
Bathroom ≥ 95 ≥ 90 True skin tones for precise makeup application
Study ≥ 90 ≥ 85 Reduce visual fatigue for clear reading
Living Room/Bedroom ≥ 90 ≥ 85 Enhance the quality of your decor and provide a comfortable and relaxing environment
Hallway ≥ 80 - Meet basic functions with a high cost-effectiveness.

A high CRI index doesn't mean the light source itself is "brighter" or "whiter"; it only indicates its color rendering ability. A high CRI warm yellow light (2700K) and a low CRI cool white light (6000K) may have the same brightness, but the high CRI warm yellow light can make wooden floors and sofas appear warmer and more textured.
