Ⅷ. 12-bit integrated PWM RGB LED driver

        Application field: Building Landscape Lighting

In December 2018, Texas Instruments introduced the LP5018, LP5024, LP5030 and LP5036 LED series drivers that integrate independent color mixing, brightness control and power saving modes. This series of devices supports smooth, lifelike colors, and can also help lighting products reduce power consumption.

The four drivers can provide a 29-kHz dimming frequency higher than the hearing range of human ears, helping designers design portable electronic devices, building automation and equipment and other applications that use human-machine interface, eliminating what the ears can usually hear during dimming noise.

In addition, compared with standard pulse width modulation (PWM) solutions, designers use the 12-bit PWM generator integrated in these four drivers to smoothly adjust the color and brightness levels, adding more innovative lighting functions to the lighting system.

Ⅸ. Nine, car lamp fault diagnosis LED driver

        Application field: Automotive Lighting

In November 2018, Germany Infineon (Infineon) launched a new LED driver LITIX? Basic+, with a flexible single LED short-circuit diagnosis function and active retry (Active Retry) function mode, so that car drivers do not have to frequent car repairs shop.

The LITIX Basic+ series products include three devices with this function: TLD2132-1EP with one input and one output channel (1 input/1 output), TLD2132-1EP (1 input/3 output) and TLD2331-3EP (3 input/ 3 out). Once there is a fault, the LED driver will report the fault to the microcontroller. According to the system's diagnostic request, the drive will either deactivate the affected channel or keep it active.

LITIX Basic+ device can choose the active retry option when the channel is disabled. The active retry will reactivate the channel for a short time, and the LED will be scanned cyclically. If the fault is no longer, it can automatically restart. In addition to diagnosing a single LED short circuit, LITIX Basic+ products can also detect open-circuit load faults and short-circuit ground faults. Similarly, the diagnosis function can be flexibly configured.

LITIX Basic+ LED driver product series has 6 devices (single-channel and three-channel version), and the supported LED current range is 5 mA to 360 mA. In addition to devices with a single LED short-circuit detection function, this series also provides two devices with integrated PWM timer (pulse width modulation): TLD2141-3EP (1 in/3 out) and TLD2142-1EP (1 in/1 out) ), can combine taillight functions (such as brake lights and taillights) cost-effectively. Thanks to pulse width modulation, it can also accurately achieve light intensity. With the TLD1114-1EP (1 in/1 out) device, this integrated power conversion function allows power to be dissipated externally.

Ⅹ. High frequency switching regulator LED driver

        Application field: Automotive Lighting

In October 2018, Allegro MicroSystems, LLC of the United States launched the latest member of the 62xx/808xx series of lighting LED driver products, ALT80802, which meets the requirements of fog lights, reversing lights, daytime running lights (DRL), rearview mirror side lights and other automobiles Application requirements such as lighting.

ALT80802 is a high-frequency switching regulator that can provide constant output current to drive high-power LEDs. This device can improve EMC/EMI design through frequency jitter, soft freewheeling diode turn-off and well-controlled switching node conversion rate. Its built-in programmable oscillator allows ALT80802 switching frequency up to 2.5 MHz, which is EMI sensitive. Outside the frequency band (such as the AM frequency band).

ALT80802 integrates a power MOSFET for buck or inverting buck-boost conversion, and its 50V rated voltage enable pin can be connected to Vin for automatic startup to support the battery-level PWM common in traditional body controllers Dimming, which brings very high flexibility.

Through current mode control and simple external compensation, the ALT80802 device can achieve fast transient response, with short dimming turn-on time, low conduction through impulse, accurate PWM duty cycle and wide dimming range. In addition, the ALT80802 device also has a wide range of protection functions, including pulse-by-pulse current limit, hiccup mode short-circuit protection, open/short-circuit freewheeling diode protection, BOOT open/short-circuit protection, VIN undervoltage lockout and thermal shutdown functions.
