Recently, JBD, a micro LED display manufacturer, has made a series of actions. Just after the front foot successfully joined Porotech, a developer of Gan micro LED materials, the back foot announced that it had reached a cooperation with wave optics, a developer of AR diffraction optical Waveguide technology, and the common goal of the two cooperation is to develop micro led AR equipment.
On the 25th, JBD announced that it had reached a strategic cooperation with WaveOptics. JBD supplied WaveOptics with 0.13 inch VGA micro led micro display for leopard, the newly developed

WaveOptics AR sample equipment Leopard
Leopard AR device is similar to traditional glasses in shape, with a built-in projector on the right, which only displays a single green image. The device adopts the Katana optical waveguide platform of WaveOptics (optical waveguide is the core optical device of AR glasses). The thin optical waveguide has a thickness of 1.15mm and a weight of 7g.
In addition, WaveOptics combines the micro-LED of JBD to design the optical engine Loki, with a brightness of 4 million nit, a weight of 0.6g and a volume of 760mm ³, This is also WaveOptics' first light engine with micro-LED display.
In fact, WaveOptics has carried out similar cooperation as early as 2020.
In early February 2020, WaveOptics reached the cooperation with Plessey, a developer of micro-LED technology. WaveOptics plans to use Plessey's full HD green micro LED display to develop optical modules. However, with the exclusive licensing cooperation between Facebook and Plessey, the transaction may not be settled.
This cooperation with JBD also shows WaveOptics's firm determination to develop the next generation of AR equipment. The cooperation between the two sides will help accelerate the application and landing of micro-led AR equipment.
At the same time, WaveOptics also actively cooperates with manufacturers in different fields, such as cooperating with Luxexcel, a 3D printing company, to develop curved lens optical waveguide modules (including 3D curved lens and optical engine with built-in diffractive optical waveguide).
From the perspective of global manufacturers, in addition to JBD, Plessey and WaveOptics, Vuzix and mojo vision are also continuously studying relevant technologies. In the part of commercial products, JBD has cooperated with Vuzix, the developer of smart glasses, to release the world's first micro led AR smart glasses at the beginning of this year. A lot of information indicates that the era of micro led AR is coming.
